We left Bilali Bay on Oinousses Island around mid day, just as another super yacht was arriving into the anchorage.

Between Oinousses Island and Chios, the channel was rough with alot of white caps and rather than sailing, we motored the short distance over to Chios Island.

We had intended to go into the free marina just north of the main Port. I went up onto the bow to help with navigating the entrance and it was rather nerve racking, as it was very shallow with lots of rocks to watch out for. The the water so clear it was hard to judge the actual depth. At one point, Paul noticed the depth at .05m under the keel. We safely made it into the marina area but all the berths were occupied and their was no space available for both us and our friends on Tipheret. We then we had to back up and turn around in the strong crosswind and repeat the process of navigating the channel out. It was a relief once we were back out into deeper waters. We then proceeded to head down the coast further to the main port and entered the port to have a look around at the berthing situation in there. It didnt look particulary inviting so we left again and continued down to the south coast where it would be more protected from the prevailing wind.

We arrived at Komi down on the southern east coast of Chios and dropped anchor a reasonable distance out from the beach as the bay was very shallow.

During the high season it is a popular destination, just 30 minutes drive from Chios. Komi is one of the most popular beaches on Chios because of it’s sandy beach and the turquoise waters being relatively shallow and safe for swiming.

We went ashore in the dingy and walked along the promenade.

The beach was very busy and nearly all the sunbeds occupied.

We walked around to the point as far as we could, then turned around and walked back as we were beginning to feel thirsty and hungry.

Daphne and Cocoa enjoying paddling in the water to help cool themselves.

We found a lovely beach bar under the canopy of some trees where we had a drink and a meal.

With the recent bush fires around and the ash in the atmosphere, we have been seeing some beautiful sunsets.

Tomorrow we are making our way over to Samos Island.
