27 May 2022 – 30 May 2022
On the morning before our departure Paul took down all the cockpit clears and the sun cover. As the weather was warm and sunny we decided to replace the clears with the insect/sun filters. Around 9.00am we untied the dock lines and edged out into the harbour where the anchor was set and hauled it in.
With very little wind we kept the engine on and set course to Kefalonia aiming to anchor in Sami for the evening.
As we motored out past the Port the sea was glassy calm.
I decided to take advantage of the sun and calm conditions to do some washing along the way.
We arrived in the anchorage around 3.30pm. There were a few other yachts in the anchorage and it was very calm and protected.
Later in the afternoon we dingied ashore in search of a restaurant where we could have some dinner. We found a lovely restaurant “Karnagio” right on the water’s edge and were accompanied by lots of stray cats.
The following morning we left the anchorage and motored a short distance along to Agia Evfimia Harbour passing a few small towns along the way.
The anchorage was rather quiet and we were able to easily find a spot to drop the anchor.
We went ashore for a look around at the local shops then proceeded to walk around to the “Sea Rock” restaurant for lunch.
It was a lovely afternoon to walk around the bay passing a few pebbly beaches where some people were swimming in the clear waters
The restaurant was in a beautiful setting overlooking the bay. Grapevines adorned the pergola providing welcoming shade over the tables. We enjoyed fresh Gropper and beetroot salad washed down with a glass of local white wine.
After lunch we wandered back down the hill to the harbour and dingied back to Calista. Shortly after we motored over to the neighbouring island of Ithaki.
We arrived at Afales Beach on Ithaki Island late afternoon and had the anchorage all to ourselves. The anchorage was sandy and water so clear that we could see the anchor on the sea floor in 8 metres.
It was lovely and quiet at anchor but it felt somewhat remote. There was a path leading up to the town above however we decided to stay on the boat.
We left the anchorage the following morning shortly after breakfast and motored around to the other side of the island to Vathy.
As we were approaching the harbour entrance we passed fellow Amelian’s “J’Encore” and Oliver called us up on the VHF to say hello.
We hadn’t been at anchor for long, and while enjoying a cup of coffee we spotted another Amel 50 approach. It was J’Encore coming back into the harbour and they anchored near to us.
Later on we dingied ashore for a walk about the small town and stopped for some lunch.
We found a lovely restaurant “Mills Vathi”. We had a table overlooking the water’s edge where we enjoyed a lovely meal.
Later that afternoon the family from J’Encore came over to see us on board Calista, bringing us a lovely bottle of wine from Montenegro. It was so lovely for us all to finally meet one another after following them on Facebook/Instagram.
The next day we awoke to a calm morning in the anchorage with mirror reflections including J’Encore at anchor.
After our morning coffee we left the anchorage to head to Lefkada Island.
